Day one... 17th February 2009

As sneaker lovers since the age of 10, we've always had to make 1 pair of trainers last a whole year. Nowadays we can buy a new pair pretty much when we want.

So after years of being sneaker freaker collectors our fave respective brands of choice Si - (si@moskua.com) Vintage Nike, and Bri (brian@moskua.com) - Adidas Originals.

Because we are lucky enough to be able to wear sneakers (a few days a week) for work and play our temptation for variety is enormous. So we had the idea 'Could we
wear one brand all year everyday for absolutely everything?'

So begins 'A year in Tigers'.

Why Onitsuka Tiger?
It's the only shoe brand that we both agree can be underground and
forever cool enough to be able to, not just wear everyday, but in
every possible difficult situation (ordinary people will just think
they are smart fashion trainers and not the hindering sports shoes
that get your entry refused to a club/pub like Nike and Adidas). Even
Si's baby son's favorite toy is a tiger called...yeah, you got it,
Onitsuka (see pic)

Who?
The original Japanese innovative sports shoe corp and now retro
division of Asics. Without this historically important brand we would
have no Nike (Nike, then called Blue Ribbon Sports imported Tigers
into the States for 10 or so years before sticking their swoosh on
the Tigers and selling them as Nike, they got bollocked, deal over
and quickly had to start Nike).

How?
We've been saving up for a good few months in order to buy a few
pairs of Tigers each to start our Onitsuka Odyssey.

We approached those really sound guys and fellow Tiger obsessives at
http://WalkLikeATiger.co.uk and asked for some help, they thankfully
obliged with a serious discount for bulk just because of our shared Tiger fascination.

What?
Over the next twelve months we will post a pic each per day of our
Tigers that day and the location plus where interesting/relevant, the
use, other than just looking ace.

You might think 'Yeah yeah, anyone can stick to one brand for a year,
but answer this:

• Are you prepared to go to a wedding or a funeral in trainers?

• Wear trainers with your suit to work even for an important new business meeting?

• Find a way into a 'no trainers allowed' pub/club wearing your trainers?

• Go for an interview in a smart suit and trainers?

• Not wear sandals in the summer or on a very hot holiday, and religiously wear Tiger trainers ALL DAY and ALL NIGHT-CLUB NIGHT
(this will be interesting because we'll have to invent/find new treatments and customization for our Tigers to make the heat bearable and the shoes still usable, could be funny)We'll find out a lot about the shoes during this time so add this blog to your Tiger fact sites to see what we discover.

Starting today.

Our starter Tiger survival kit includes:

• 1 pair of mesh California 78 for absolute breathability when it's life threateningly hot.

• 1 pair of premium leather AEKA for the 'smarter occasions' but still with visible branded stripage.

• 1 pair of Mesh Ultimate 81 for long walking comfort.

• 1 pair of leather Fabre 74/ BL for mountain biking/ Breakdancing.

• 1 pair of leather Mexico 66 as a general purpose all round (folds flat in a briefcase) super comfy glove/slipper and just because it's probably the greatest shoe of all time.

Plus a couple of pairs we've had for ages that are still going strong.

That's it we are off.

We want your help,
send us pics of your fave Tigers. Send us pics of you performing your fave hobby/loungin/extreme sport/anything in Tigers. Help us find more Tigers for our journey, recommend a Tiger style not available in the UK that might be perfect for a certain task ahead.

Follow our travels in Onitsuka Tigers. A photo post and diary entry a day. (work and life permitting) Can it be done, will we crack to temptations?

Wish us luck.
Let's do this!
